Mark Begich is a Democrat trying to replace the Republican U.S. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. Mark is for reforming the disaster that No Child Left Behind has created, better K education, better education at all higher levels, better support for College in curriculum and cost and catching up to the educational levels in other industrialized societies. He is for energy reform to create reliable, sustainable, clean, affordable and renewable energy for the rest of the 21st century. He is for reducing energy consumpion by increasing energy efficiency which requires diligent use of old technology and research to create new technology. He wants to deal effectively with climate change which is especially prominent in Alaska. He has brought greater openness to the city of Anchorage and hopes to do the same as the new Alaska USA Senator. He feels strongly that public officials should live by the highest standards of honesty, integrity and transparency. His ethics pledge is ban secret meetings, make financial records easily accessible, stop special treatment for Senators and their families and end Senator's self policing. He believes in affordable health care/drugs for Seniors, Veterans and all of us. He believes in full privacy protection for all of us and less federal snooping. He particulary dislikes the Bush Administration's dismantling of Constitutional privacy rights and their increased activation of ugly powers.
