Jane Mayer is an investigative Journalist for the New Yorker magazine. Her new book is The Dark Side: The inside story of How the War on Terror Turned Into a War on American Ideals. She reveals a secret International Red Cross warning to the Bush Administration that the CIA was torturing prisoners, a war crime. Some other revelations are that the CIA decided six years ago that about 1/3 of Guantanamo prisoners were imprisoned by mistake, that top officials of the USA could be prosecuted, that FBI agents refused to participate in the torture because they believed it was criminal, that the Bush Administration is destroying USA decency and morality, that a new blueprint for how to do torture was created, that the fiction that the President is above the law was created by John Woo and others, that Bush officials might be prosecuted for war crimes or might have difficulty traveling abroad, that treaties might be ignored, that many people were killed by USA torture, that false statements made by the tortured were used as an excuse to go to war against Iraq, that there are fingerprints from Dick Cheney and his office all over the torture scenario, that it should be up to the American people to decide whether Cheney/Bush should be charged with war crimes. Well, this American and millions of other Americans have decided that, yes, they should be charged with war crimes and would be found guilty in a fair trial.
