FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 8-2-2008

Better

Luis Moreno-Ocampo is the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. He has indicted members of the Sudanese government for war crimes in Darfur where hundreds of thousands have been killed and raped and over a million have been displaced. Sudanese have also been indicted for covering up their crimes. He is urgently trying to create accountability for war crimes regardless of how powerful the creators of war crimes are so that all kinds of war crimes can be terminated. He was unanimously elected International Criminal Court Prosecutor in 2003. In Argentina he was involved in precident-setting prosecuting of top military commanders for mass killing and other large-scale human rights abuses. He did great work for NGOs. He has been a visiting professor at Stanford University and at Harvard University. He is also investigating cases in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic. In Darfur it was discovered that Ahmad Harun coordinated the illegal activities. In northern Uganda the court issued arrest warants for the arrest of the Lord's Resistance Army which resulted in the end of attacks in Uganda. He knows that Darfuris are being attacked in a campaign by the people who are meant to protect them and that Harun is in the middle. All of the main U.S. allies are inside the court: Japan, Australia and Europe so it is a court supported by the U.S. allies. For successfully beginning the process of the end of global war crimes, Luis Moreno-Ocampo has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the links below for more information.
