Severn Cullis-Suzuki is a Canadian who started the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO) at the age of 9. ECO is a group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. After being successful in many projects they raised enough money to go to the UN's Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro where 12 year old Severn closed a Plenary Session with a dazzling speech and received a standing ovation. She has since given many speeches to schools, corporations, conferences and international meetings worldwide. She received UNEP's Global 500 Award. She has appeared and participated in many TV programs in Canada, USA and Britain. She was the host of Suzuki's Nature Quest children's TV series and has written envionmental articles for magazines and newspapers and had a Doubleday book called Tell the World published. She served as a Commissioner for the UN's Earth Charter and helped in preparations for the Johannesburg World Summit. She helped native peoples of British Columbia and the Amazon protect their forests. She has a passion to speak of the future of our environment. She and five girlfriends cycled across Canada in a clean air campaign and she worked in the Amazon to further her biology studies. She spoke at the University of Alberta as one of the 2006 Revolutionary Speakers.
