Zainab Cheema is an excellent example of how enlightened and progressive Pakistani-American Muslims can be. She works as the Executive Coordinator of Peace x Peace in DC, for the daily online magazine the Globalist and is a Pakistani women's activist. She previously worked for Aurat Foundation. She promoted craftswomen for a trade fair and helped combat human rights violations against women. She loves women's literature and other creative women's activities. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University (English Literature). She knows there is a vibrant and influential women's democracy movement in Pakistan which may still rescue the Pakistanis from the ravages of U.S. backed dictatorial government. The grief over the Benazir Bhutto assassination was intense and long-lasting. There is now a new generation of strong women in Pakistan who will fight for decency and democracy. As in the U.S. the media is flooded with lies and propaganda created by illegitimate government and as in America it is the youth who have become most active in bringing a change to move toward a real and lasting democracy not run by rich crooks. Maybe we will be saved by young idealists with brains instead of being brutalized by rich/dumb old men.
