Peter Welch is Vermont's Democratic and only Vermont member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He opposed the Iraq war before it began and wants to end it as soon as possible and he helped the House craft a bill to require the President to begin withdrawing our troops within 30 days. The bill would also require a transition from combat to protection. He wants stronger Vermont agriculture. He wants better help for recovering soldiers and veterans. He is committed to making the USA energy independent including a bill with incentives to increase use of wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, hydropower, ocean tides, landfill gas, efficiency and conservation. He believes every American deserves affordable health care and affordable prescription drugs. He wants to end tax breaks for big oil and increase renewables funding. He wants to increase auto efficiency. He wants to increase safety at nuclear power plants. He wants improved homeland security by supporting first responders, protecting borders and ports, reforming FEMA, improving diplomacy, reinvigorating international institutions, forging alliances to achieve peaceful resolutions, acting on all 9-11 Commission recommentations and cooperating with world allies. He wants to make the educational system utilize all the different ways that students are capable of using to learn better.
