Maria Cantwell is the Junior United States Senator from Washington State and a Democrat. She helped create a tax cut in Washington State for ordinary folks. She wrote legislation to fight identity theft. She made National Guard and Reserve call-ups more predictable and rational. She helped improve Aerospace technology. She helped bring health care to rural areas. She helped create alternative fuels especially biofuels. She helped increase the gas mileage of cars, SUVs and light trucks. She supports legislation to roll back Patriot Act confiscation of papers, electronic records and equipment of libraries and book sellers. She wants to improve voting rights for all voters equally. She wants to end wiretapping without a warrant and otherwise protect civil liberties. She wants to protect women's choice in all phases of reproduction and require full access to contraceptives for all including female service members. She supports the End Racial Profiling Act which would prevent all types of profiling based on race. She wants to protect the civil liberties of all including Arab-Americans and Muslim-Americans. She is a cosponsor of a Senate-passed, bipartison resolution apologizing to the victims of lynching and the descendents of those victims of the failure of the Senate to enact anti-lynching legislation in the past.
