Steve Cohen is the new Democratic Congressman for the 9th district of Tennessee. He has a high level of honesty and ethics and was twice awarded the "Bird Dog" honor by Common Cause for honesty and integrity in government. He wants Congress to pass real ethics reform so they can serve all of the people not just the rich and powerfull. He knows the administration lied to get the Iraq war started, has no successful plan to secure the occupation and actually increased terrorism instead of reducing it. Iraqis should do their own policing and Americans should come home. He knows we should make major investments in alternative energies so we can stop our dependency on global oil supplies. He is for an excess profits tax on oil and gas companies who engage in price gouging to create huge profits. Car manufacturers of low-mileage vehicles should be taxed on gas consumption to stimulate creation of better MPG and all other methods of energy conservation should be increased. Better education should be stimulated and student costs should be reduced. Good health care should be made universal so that everyone will be insured and treated as is the case in most industrialized nations. Medical research should be increased in all areas. The Bush administration created fiscal irresponsibility at its highest level ever which must stop ASAP. We must create job security and higher wages so that huge personal debt is reduced.
