Shelley Berkley is the Democratic Congresswoman for the 1st district of Nevada. She is promoting the excellent idea of energy independence by using less oil and more alternative energy sources and increased efficiency of use. She is for better, smarter security procedures for first responders, ports and aviation. She is for better, smarter public education to promote a high quality, better paid workforce. She wants to greatly reduce the cost to college students of their higher education. She wants real No Child Left Behind instead of the fake No Child Left Behind. She co-sponsored the Class Size Reduction Act and wants to invest in early education. She wants to preserve and enhance real Social Security and real Medicare without goofy gaps, overpriced medications and risky privatization. She wants better veterans' care and benefits. She believes strongly in the benefits of organized labor and wants to increase minimum wages, paycheck protection, overtime pay protection, workplace safety, workplace health and worker/environmental trade protections. She wants Attorney General Gonzales to resign, opposes the Iraq "surge", wants more stem cell research and opposes the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste boondoggle.
