FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 10-4-97

Helen Caldicott,M.D. has been actively opposing nuclear and environmental madness since 1971. She founded Physicians for Social Responsibility and Women's Action for Nuclear Disarmament. She helped start International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and other organizations. She travels widely to spread the word and has written many books and articles. This week she is speaking at the University of Oregon on ecological crises. She correctly identifies transnational corporations as the real power behind environmental degradation throughout the world. Corporate and national activity needs to be more environmentally-friendly. Global corporate power needs an infusion of vision so that it will help save the future instead of destroying it. We do not need the fascism inherent in a New World Order. We need the compassion inherent in New World Justice. We in Oregon know how exquisitely appropriate it is for a doctor to be on the cutting edge of what the future needs because our good Governor Kitzhaber is a doctor.
