AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL was started in 1961 by Peter
Benenson. It is now the world's most successful voluntary
organization dealing with human rights abuses. Amnesty activists
work for the reduction of acts of brutality committed by
governments and dissident organizations against political
prisoners and other members of society. They do not oppose any
government or other organization; they oppose actual acts of
physical and mental abuse committed by any government or other
organization regardless of the political nature of the offending
government or organization. They use investigative techniques and
other means to expose imprisonment of political prisoners,
torture, killing and other acts of brutality against opponents of
governments and other organizations. Because Amnesty's activities
reduce the level of brutality and increase truth in government
and elsewhere, it has been named FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK. Click a
