Ultranationalism sucks. Uncritical, slavish devotion to a nation and its flag is idolatry at its worst. It leads to wars and other national atrocities like land mines. It led to the Oklahoma City bombing.
Personally, I cannot feel any loyalty to a nation like the USA that is so fucking stupid that it can't convert to the superior world standard metric system.
Feel pity for the USA because its grossly powerful military machine is cowardly cowering behind a sea of inhumane land mines. If the USA does not have the foresight to totally ban landmines and totally convert to the metric system before 2001, there is no way it can lead anybody into the 21st century. It might possibly stumble into the 21st century behind some other more sensible and humane nation.
The Korean problem can be solved peaceably. There are too many arms and too many soldiers in Korea. Negotiations should be initiated looking toward the gradual demilitarization of all of Korea and the gradual reunification of all of Korea. This is a watershed opportunity to begin the demilitarization of all of Earth.
UPDATE: NOW THAT KIM DAE-JUNG HAS BEEN ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH, THERE IS REAL HOPE THAT DEMOCRATIC/ECONOMIC REFORM & UNION CAN COME TO BOTH KOREAS.
