Bill Tilghman was a well know lawman in the early days and had a reputation for cleaning up towns that had become violent and out of control . Tilghman was appointed as the City Marshall to clean up the town of Cromwell , Oklahoma.Tilghman was shot to death while attempting to make an arrest outside a saloon on main street in Cromwell in 1924.

Seminole Police Department

Keirsey, James - Seminole Police Department. 01/01/29

Keirsy was assisting Chief of Police Jake Sims in making an arrest of a suspect in a store north of Maud near Harjo. A gun battle between the Officers and Suspect ensued and Officer Keirsy shot and killed the suspect , but received a mortal wound in the exchange.

Whitson, Chris C. - Seminole Police Department. 07/04/36

Whitson was investigating a stolen vehicle complaint at a bar north of Seminole upon confronting the suspects he was caught off guard and killed by the suspects , The suspects were later apprehended in Texas and received sentences of life in the State Prison.

Wolf Township

Sam Robertson - Constable

December 11, 1929

Sam Robertson, 43, Constable of Wolf Township, was shot and fatally wounded in a gun battle at Wolf drug store when he broke up a gambling session. According to information from the Sheriff’s Department, he was shot by Otis Lackey, who was acting as lookout for the game. Lackey was captured at a garage on the Sasakwa -Wewoka highway, southeast of Wolf, a short time afterward, by Officers John Poe and Jim Villines and was to be charged with murder. Robertson was taken to a Maud hospital where he died. The slain officer, the third peace officer in Seminole County to be killed in 60 days, is survived by a wife and seven children. They live on a farm near Maud. Lackey was said to be guard at the game and shot through the door five times when Robertson attempted to arrest four men inside. George Hill, owner of the place raided, and George Doolin, at whose place Lackey was arrested, were held in county jail at Wewoka.
