Here you will find
several unique photographs taken by my father, Frank Messinger, during
preparations for the Gemini space missions. He worked as the in-house photographer
for Weber Aircraft, a small southern California aerospace company that developed and manufactured
the ejection seats made for the Gemini space capsules. He photographed
the astronauts as they were measured for their seats, and laid in sand
to make contour molds of their bodies for custom seat cushions. He was
there while various tests were performed to determine the astronauts' center
of balance. Some of these men went on to shoot for the moon. Later Dad sent some of his photographs off to be autographed
by these space pioneers. Many responded with personal messages of thanks.
This site is devoted to a portion of the collection of photos he gathered.
Unless otherwise indicated all the photographs you will see here were taken
and printed by my father. Much of the factual information seen here
has been collected from pages on the NASA web site at www.nasa.gov.
Visit them for historical information about space exploration from the
early days of Project Mercury to the latest shuttle flight and the International
Space Station.
