Medical Experience

US Army Combat Medical Specialist (91A) Emergency Medical Technician - Ambulance Phlebotomist - Hospital Laboratory Emergency Department Volunteer

My medical experience started in the Army where I had the opportunity to serve in a variety of medical settings: Medical Battalions, Infantry squad medic and hospital rotations (including small clinics). The Army is where I was first exposed to the PA profession and when I decided to pursue the field.

Currently I work as a phlebotomist in the local hospital and volunteer about 10-15 hours a week in the Emergency Department. I love working in both of these areas as I have a lot of exposure to both patients and other medical team members. Lab work is especially valuable because one gets to see whats happening behind the scene (and learning the intricacies of how the lab works and what the tests mean will help later).

Education

Associates Degree(Microbiology)
North Idaho College
Bachelors Degree(Microbiology)
University of Idaho

I have not yet completed my Bachelors Degree at the University of Idaho, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. With 26 credits remaining for my bachelors, I should graduate within a year. As many of you know, working in the medical field to get the experience, chipping away at the old degree and having some semblance of a social life can be time consuming.

If you have any comments concerning medical experience or education as it pertains to the Physician Assistant profession please email me. I'd love to get feedback and I could pass it on to others.
