Skylab 4:
Launch Day!
We slept in the cars near the entrance to the Space Center. We awoke to the sound of cars driving through the entry gate. Without a moment to think, the engine was started, and we entered, with our pass affixed to the VW windshield.
It was still dark.
The day was good. Clear and cool. We knew it would be possible to view the bird for quite a while.
As I had experienced during the Skylab 3 launch, I was struck by the silence at the moment of ignition. I was prepared with better cameras this time, and I collected many images prior to hearing (and feeling) the roar of the Saturn 1B engines.
