Music
Well ... now I will start with my favourite music, called SKA. SKA comes from Jamaica and was "invented" by the colored people there. It sounds like Reaggae and Soul, but faster but is extremely good for dancing (and all other purposes, which remembers me a song called: "Sex & SKA"). Now I will start with some good SKA-bands and their real good songs:
A few years ago die Busters were really a good german SKA-Band, who delighted us with songs like "Rum & Coca Cola", "Sharp dressed girl", "Dead or alive" and many other. In the meantime they got worse in their behaviour, especially on concerts, so I dislike them although they still make SKA-like music. Nevertheless they made great music and should be listed here.
A new SKA-Band from the neighborhood of Bremen (Germany) is Schwarz auf weiß, who belong to the absolute highlights in the momentary germanspeaking SKA-Music. Songs like "Hippies", "Was treibt dich dazu?", "Cybersaufen" as well as "Schnürschuh" are making frolicsome dance-mood on the concerts (and will do at home, if the CD will finally be pressed). I added a picture of this extremely smart band, which was taken on the "Eins live" competition for new, young bands, where "Schwarz auf weiß" was CHEATED by the jury so obviously that we all couldn't believe it! The Jury prefered the always heard, popular, uniform-noise and rap music which was all already heard on the radio!. Oddly enough is that one band, which really played bad music, but whose manager was in the Jury, was "pushed" in front of "Schwarz auf weiß" and other better bands than them! Nevertheless ... Do the SKA with "Schwarz auf weiß"!
Important in Ska-Music is of course Laurel Aitken, who plays the SKA for ages, and made it popular more or less in Europe. Even today this SKA-Legend plays on concerts and brings good mood with songs like "Rudi got married", "Benwood Dick", "Mad about you" and of course the legendary "Skinhead".
Also one of the stand out personalities of SKA-music was Judge Dread! Unfortunately this notable musician, who shocked the people by his songs and clothing, died much too early! The texts of his songs were mostly of sexual character, driven by SKA-Rhythms, and many songs were forbidden to be played on the radio in Great Britain. If you listen closely, you'll find lots of obscenities. (If you're able to write down the whole text of a song, please let me know!!). The list of his good songs would be too long, so here I listed some of them: "Y viva suspenders", "Dreadlock", "Oh, she is a big girl now", "Bring back the skins", "My Ding a ling", "Je t'aime", "Big 5", "Big 6", "Big 8" and "Big 9"!
A more popular band is Madness, who came into the charts with "Our House". Other songs are much better because of SKA-style like "One step beyond", "Night boat to Cairo", Baggy trousers", "House of fun", "Swan Lake", "Michael Caine" and "Tomorrow's just another day"
El Bosso & die Pingpongs were one of the first german SKA-bands which had success with their music, and can enthuse the fans with songs like "Mieser Wicht", "Mafia Tanz", "Katharin", "Immer nur SKA" and "Shame & Scandal".
Real Jamaica-SKA in in its raw style is made by Prince Buster since the sixties and up to this date incomparable in its style! Notable songs are e.g. "Hard men fe dead", "Ten commandments", "Wash wash" and not to forget "Soul of Africa".
A good SKA-band from Holland is Mr.Review, with their singer you can note always wearing a kilt. They're in the SKA-scene for some years, they mobilize hosts SKA-dancing maniacs to their concerts delighting them with songs like "The feeling is allright", "Shifting sand", "Ice & snow", "One way ticket" and "Another town".
Likewise popular and liked are Mark Foggo's Skasters, who drive the enthusiasm on the concerts to the maximum with songs like "New shoes" or "Hello".
Also in SKA-business for long years are the Skatalites, who seem to have the SKA in their blood and enthuse the people with their (mostly) instrumental songs. Occasional the one or other SKA-legend comes and sings a song with them, just like Peter Tosh did "Shame & Scandal" with the Skatalites. Other good intrumental songs are "Rock Fort Rock", "Ball of Fire", "Guns of Navarone", "Latin goes Ska" and "Freedom Sound".
Another good german SKA-band which is also relatively new, is Frau Doktor, with loads of people visiting their concerts. Their songs are very melodic and extremely good for dancing, e.g. "Strychnine", "Süße Ska Musik", "Ohne Dich", "Schuld ist sie", "Too drunk to fuck" as well as "Egyptian Reggae"
Of course there are lots more SKA-bands which are godd and which I like but because of time and space limitation I list here some good SKA-bands, which I like, with one of their good songs:
Thats enough for the moment with the SKA ... I will go on later!
I will talk about my favourite music, will list some really good bands and some of their best songs. Additionally I will offer some MP3-files to give you an idea about the music/song, I'm talking about! In some mp3's the lyrics are included, so you can read it with a suitable plugin for winamp.
This mp3-song is extremely decreased in sound quality and about one minute long to save the rare space I have and to reduce download time!
