We will be starting on chapter 6 Photosynthesis right after the Thanksgiving break.
Section 6-1 describes how energy from the sun is captured and cycled through various chemical pathways.
Autotrophs (Plants) have light absorbing pigments call chlorophyll found in chloroplast organelles. You need to review over visible spectruim of light. Rememeber ROYGBIV?
There is alot of detail in following a pathway. Beready for lots and lots of study hours reviewing classroom lectures and reading the text book.
Pages 114-116 introduces you to the electron transport pathway. The Calvin Cycle is introduced in 6.2 starting on page 117. Here photosynthesis is analyzed. Different plants have different ways of utilizing the suns energy: C4 and C3 plants are discussed and compared.
Chapter 6 has its summary on page 121 with Review problems on page 122 and Critical Thinking problems on page 123.
You must learn the structure of the chloroplast; be able to name and describe the different pigments in plants, relate the main events of electron transport as well as explain how ATP is synthesized during the light reaction.
