Corridor 20 (IH69) Feasibility Study

Two objectives were defined for this study:

  • To determine the feasibility of an interstate type highway (freeway) within Corridor 20 along U.S. 59 from the Texas/Mexico border at Laredo through Victoria and Houston to the vicinity of Texarkana, Texas, and
  • To determine the feasibility of an interstate type highway (freeway) connecting Houston to the Lower Rio Grande Valley.

Evaluating the feasibility of the proposed improvements along the defined highway corridors included five major components of study:

  • Travel Demand.
  • Engineering and Construction.
  • Economic Feasibility,
  • Environmental Issues, and
  • Public Involvement.

The feasibility of seven alternatives within the highway corridors was tested from a conceptual planning level. All alternatives that were tested are economically feasible and represent a good investment of public funds.
