Derek "Fester" Boutwell

This is me in my younger days with my favorite goat Ebony.

Hello. My name is Derek Boutwell. I go by the nickname given to me by my Sergeant....... Fester. It seems that when I first started working with Sergeant Creef, I looked a little bit like Uncle Fester on the Addams Family. So now you know how I got the nickname!

Here's a little bit about myself. Ahhhh, where to begin? Well, I'm living in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. For those of you unfamiliar with the great Outer Banks of North Carolina, it is the greatest vacation spot on the planet. Or at least it looks that way during tourist season! It is where the Wright Brothers first flew their plane, the "Home" of the Lost Colony(I've always wondered how it could be the Lost Colony's HOME if they were lost?), and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. For more info, go here to visit The Outer Banks. I come from a Law Enforcement Family. My Grandfather, Grandmother, Father, and Uncle were/are Law Enforcement Officers. I am proud of this. I have even dabbled in the fine art of poetry concerning the subject, called 'True Blue'. Go check out my Law Enforcement Webpages. I   have worked for the Dare County Sheriff's Office at the Dare County Detention Center. I "served sentence" there from 1996 to 2000. I originally planned to attend North Carolina's Basic Law Enforcement Training(BLET) and begin working road patrol. But unfortunately my law enforcement career was ended due to injuries I received in a car accident on July 22nd, 2000. I was also a volunteer firefighter for the Kitty Hawk Fire Department.  But again because of my "limited capabilities", I am no longer firefighting, instead I am in the Investigations/Documentations portion of the department and also serve as the department photographer, website guru, and now apparently the PR person as well.  I'm not complaining tho, at least I can help out in some way or fashion.  I also operate WolfDen Enterprises, which is an association of customer services to help fund my true love, storm chasing. Law Enforcement, Fire fighting, automotive detailing, photography, and webpage designing are also hobbies of mine. To meet some of my friends, heroes, and my Dad, click on the names.

I don't have that many things in my life that I am truly proud of. Most of it seems ordinary to me, but there are a few things that I believe are extraordinary. Most of all, I believe that my relationship with God is a wonderful thing. I don't have a religion, I have a relationship. I have been a member of Arlington United Methodist Church for 13 years. Another thing I'm proud of is my family. I love them to death. And finally, I'm proud of my close-knit circle of friends. I tend to let very few people into my personal life. But the ones I do let in, I keep very close to me. They go beyond the normal range of friends, they are family. Thanks for spending some time with me. I hope you go away with a better understanding of who I am.

Proverbs 17:17 says, "A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." and Proverbs 18:24 says, "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.".

Rememberance

This is a mugshot of my grandparents. They were just visiting the jail.

This is my Police Academy Class from Ohio. Don't we look rough and tough?

This is our Academy Commander at the Commencment Ceremony. Steve Stechshulte is a man worthy of great respect.

These are two pics of my baby. It was a 1988 Mustang. It was so sweet! At least it was until that lady ran a stop sign doing 80 MPH.

Alameda, CA --Coast Guard Cutter Boutwell (WHEC 719)
One of the largest Cutters in the fleet, bearing my family name.

The United States Coast Guard serves a valuable purpose on the waters in this area. They are called in almost daily to aid and assist with rescue operations. Stationed to the north in Elizabeth City and to the south on Hatteras Island, during the year they save countless lives thru search and rescue, boat and maritime inspections, and Law Enforcement operations.

I would like to thank the men and women of the Air Force and Air Force Reserves that continue to keep watch over our coastal waters so that we can keep informed of impending disaster. Hats off to the Hurricane Hunters!
