Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce gave up the Wings Over Angel Fire air show providing fixed wing acrobats and the lovely hot air balloons. With little hesitation the balloons headed up by the balloon meister of the last 3 years Morgan Braden came back into the same time period and became the Angel Fire Balloon Rally. All I want to focus on was the good things. A private developer donated the use of his grassed fields at the edge of town just north of the airport. Morgan found a few sponsors which would pay for lodging for a few of the 33 pilots and propane for the Friday and Saturday flights. We had a great time. The weather was quite different then the past 7 years that I have attended this rally. We had calm (still)winds for inflation and according to my GPS I moved no faster than 2 MPH in any direction. Most of the time we hung there at 1 MPH or below and switching from one direction to another. After 30 minutes of trying to get to the target on Saturday I decided to give my sponsors something to remember and we climbed up 1,000 feet to see the little balloons below. That put me up to about 9,500 feet MSL. The first day I forgot my camera but crew in the basket took my usual pictures and they gave them to the crew chief to put on his site. I'll include what I do have on this page and the rest can be seen when my crewchief gets it finished.
