Summary of Religious Views:
Williamson's family groomed him to become a clergyman, and to this end he became a licensed minister, but did not achieve ordination. At that point, he gave up the ministry entirely, first taking up teaching, then pursuing medical training in Europe. Some experts classify Williamson as ultimately having become a deist.
