Precipitation:
Rain will occur today in association with two low pressure systems.
One will be moving from West to East Texas and the other will be
diving south from Montana to Iowa. Heaviest rainfall in the United
States exceeding two inches may occur in East Texas. Heavy snow may
occur in South Dakota in association with the northern low pressure
and frontal system. Severe thunderstorms will be possible from
Central Texas through Georgia with the greatest threat in the southern
half of Louisiana. Tornadoes, large hail, and severe winds are
possible.
Temperature:
Temperature will be moderate over much of the southeastern
United States today. Dewpoint temperature will be high there.
Challenge Questions:
What is dewpoint temperature? Why do you think that the thunderstorms
and greatest rainfall are associated with regions of high dewpoint
temperature?
