Maths is a very wide subject, and some of its branches are quite accessible to schoolchildren, teachers and non-mathies in general. The traditional examples tend to be fractals, chaos and graph theory. Fibonacci Numbers are of those seemingly useless things that just happen to occur everywhere in nature. Pi is arguably another. Ethnomathematics is the study of how mathematics arises naturally in societies. For instance, in games. Mancala is a game that Egyptians used to play thousands of years ago and which you can play now.

If you are interested in more mathematics articles, the Mathematical Association of America has several regular columnists writing for them, our favourite being Ivars Peterson's Mathland. If you are more into problem solving, the Australian Mathematics Trust is the place to go. And if you have any questions about anything in the subject, why not ask Dr Math?

And we are an African site, so... ever heard of African Fractals? The Mathematicians of the African diaspora have their own page too! And we must certainly not fail to mention the Mathematical Digest of South Africa.
