Molecular Nomenclature

1. The names of all binary compounds end in -ide.
2. Use prefixes on both elements- unless the subscript on the first element is 1. In that case, onit the mono- prefix on the first element.
3. Writing formulas is the reverse of this process. The prefix tells the subscript of the element ( not the charge or oxidation number)

1. N₂O
2. PCl₃
3. SF₆
4. CS₂
5. Cl₂O₇
6. N₂O₅
7. CCl₄

Write formulas for the following

1. Carbon tetrabromide
2. Boron trichloride
3. Dinitrogen tetrahydride
4. Diphosphorous trioxide
