This fighter is the result of cooperation between 4 countries (UK, Germany, Italy and Spain). The first Eurofighter flight occured at the end of 1992 in Manching in Germany. Designed as a fighter that will meet the needs of these 4 countries in the next century the Eurofighter is capable of both air-to-air and air-to-surface roles. Extensive use is made of new materials and construction techniques.
The radar is a multi-mode, multi-target capable. The Engines in Europes newest fighter are 2 Eurojet EJ200 engines each producing 20,250 lb of thrust giving the Eurofighter a max speed of Mach 2, with a combat radius between 745 and 895 miles.
The Eurofighter is armed with a 27mm mauser BK27 cannon, nine hardpoints and 4 underfueslage missile stations. The EF2000 is capible of employing air-to-air short and medium range missiles, air-to-surface missiles, anti-radar missiles and guided and unguided bombs. The Eurofighter is due to enter into service in 1998.
