Aircraft Type Suffixes

 

When filing a flight plan, you can add a suffix to your aircraft type that will give Flight Service an indication of your transponder and navigational equipment.  Suffixes are as follows:

No Transponder Installed

/T

Transponder Installed Having No Altitude Encoding

/U

Altitude Encoding Transponder Installed

/D

DME Installed; No Transponder Installed

/B

DME and Transponder Installed; Transponder Does Not Encode Altitude

/A

DME and Altitude Encoding Transponder Installed

/R

RNAV and Altitude Encoding Transponder Installed

/C

RNAV and Transponder Installed; Transponder Does Not Encode Altitude

/W

RNAV Installed; No Transponder Installed

/G

GPS with GNSS Installed.  This has oceanic, En Route, Terminal and GPS Approach Capabilities

 

 

 

DME is Distance Measuring Equipment

RNAV is Area Navigation

GPS is Global Navigation System

GNSS is Global Navigation Satellite System

 

 

 

So, in the aircraft type box of your flight plan, report N12649 or N6968L as a C172/U; N9290J is a PA28/U
