Moral Recovery

This morning I woke up, not from an enchanting dream nor from some romantic fantasy rather from the sad and dreary reality we are now living in. What has become of us? What happened to the dignified Filipino that we once knew? Where is he who esteemed human life? Where is the Filipino who had so much love for his country that he was even willing to die for her?

Yes, we have worked hard trying to defeat poverty, we have struggled day after day trying to cross that so-called bridge to progress. And yes, we have achieved many things, technology, art, a taste of good life, and money. Yes, we were never a failure but did it ever occur to us that our own very works, our own very struggles are the one to destroy us?

But we have done nothing wrong... All we did was to lessen the sufferings we see and feel and nothing is worng.

Nothing wrong? Nothing wrong? Look around you! Think! Think of how many Filipinos working overseas, taking the risk of losing their families, of losing their own very lives! Think of those who would give anything and everything even to the point of selling their own sacred bodies just to survive. Think of those who steal and even kill for money. And why do they do this? Simply because we never gave them a chance. You say you worked to lessen the sufferings around you, then why do we still see so much misery and affliction. Why are there still so many killings? You say you worked for uour country. Yes you did, but maybe it was not for our country but for yourselves. For your own selfish desires. For your own selfish wishes thus pushing others and not giving them a chance to live a life with dignity! Look at them! They would have been better off being dogs of rich masters, fat, comfortable and well fed.

Now we ask, who are to be blamed? The corrupt government whowould not have been corrupt if we did not give "lagay". The criminals who would not have stolen or killed if we gave them a chance to earn. The poor people who did not dreamt to be poor. No... We are to be blamed. We are guilty.

Are we not guilty for not giving loe and care to our families because we chose to be rich, very very rih. Are we not guilty for exposing purselves and other people specially the children to immoral movies, books and other publicities. Are we not guilty for advertising and allowing condoms and other contraceptives to be used by our people, especially by the youth so that they would have more reasons to do sex. We are slowly and painfully being destroyed and still you say you did nothing?

Are we going to let all that is left of us, die? Please... wake up. Don't ignore our problem. This is not a nightmare that you would wake up to and everything would be okay. No, this is reality, this is our reality and it is not okay.

My dear Filipinos, time is running out. We are diminishing as persons, as Filipinos. Don't let us die. Act! Do something.... Please...
