Notes:The E-2C Hawkeye airborne tactical data system (ATDS)was a state of the art aircraft when built around 1972. In order to keep up with the changing
requirements of the military the Hawkeye has been continuessly upgraded with
improved avionics and detection equipment. The current radar is the AN/APS-A-145. This radar enables the aircraft to track up to 36 fighters at a time.
The primary mission of this aircraft is to patrol the extremes of water or land to detect impending attacks by enemy aircraft, missile or sea forces. In addition to this primary AEW role, the Hawkeye can also provide strike force and area traffic control, anti-air warfare, ASW air tactical coordination, surveillance and Search and Rescue.
Designed for all-weather operation from carriers or land bases, the Hawkeye's flexibility allows its use in a variety of offensive and defensive warfare applications. The Hawkeye served with US Forces in Vietnam and more recently in the Middle-East to control and monitor Navy air strikes.
Other users of the E-2C are Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Israel, Egypt and Thailand.
