EASTON MASSACHUSETTS, U.S.A. NORTHEAST BRISTOL COUNTY CLIMATOLOGICAL REPORT JUNE 1996 The month of June 1996 was slightly warmer than normal and a rather dry way to begin the meteorological summer. Frequency of precipitation was not lacking but yield was as 12 calendar days were logged with rainfall. The weather pattern which generally favored west and northwesterly winds aloft equated to a small threat of severe weather or wide spread rainfall. A very benign month overall with just three thunderstorm days. Winds gusted to only 31 MPH for the entire month at Oliver Ames High School in North Easton. The mean temperature of 67.1 degrees was about 0.6 degrees warmer than normal. Perhaps you noticed that the month did not feature many sizzling afternoons. Easton's maximum temperature record verifies that observation as not even one day reached 90 degrees for the entire month. . For the year, only two days have reached 90 degrees or more so far oddly occurring in the normally cool month of May. It is important to keep in mind that the ocean remains chilly in June with water temperatures surrounding us to our east and south hovering only near 60 degrees. In Easton and the neighboring communities, a southerly wind will particularly hold temperatures from rising in our area while Boston and its western suburbs are much warmer as the southwest wind is more of a land wind. **-Just as a note and reminder, my 24 hour period for precipitation measurement ends at 5PM. This has been a set reading since I started climatological observations in December of 1992. If rain occurrs after 5PM on the last day of the month, I usually make a note of it. Light rain occurred on the evening of the 30th after the 5PM observation which had yielded only a trace. The evening rainfall through Midnight the 30th/1st registered 0.10." Therefore, the monthly total using a full calendar month would be 2.40" instead of 2.30."
