Hurricane Erika:
Maximum Winds-125mph....Minimum Pressure-946mbs....September 3rd-15th
Track Coordinates
On September 2nd, tropical depression 6 formed several hundred miles to the east of the Lesser Antilles,
strengthening to Tropical Storm Erika. Erika gained strength as she quickly moved to the WNW. Shearing
increased over Tropical Storm Erika and completely uncovered the low-level circulation; however, the convection
soon covered the center again. She continued on her WNW track and strengthened to Hurricane Erika. She
passed just north of the Lesser Antilles and gradually strengthened to 85 mph. After battering Puerto Rico with
high seas and rain, she began moving north and stengthened quickly from a Cat.1 hurricane to a Cat.3 hurricane. On September 9th, Erika peaked with winds of 125mph as she began moving NE over cooler waters and weakened. She was eventually downgraded to a tropical storm on the 12th. Moving now ENE, Erika approached
the Azores as she strengthened from 50mph to 65 mph. She came very close to the Azores and brought heavy rain, gusty winds and some high waves. Then she turned extra-tropical.
