Another Dish Added

As of Septmeber 26, 2000, I have added another dish to the LoBERT site. As I write this page, I am trying to learn how to add it into the system that way I will be able to run a 12 GHZ interferometer. It's a 10 foot(3.048 meter) dish. It is mounted facing due south. It will take me a few days to get the alignment set right, but for right now I can do a manual drift scan of the sun with it.

I have found a neat little device in a magazine that will measure magnetic field in your area and give your the ability to map it as it changes. Go to http://www.geocities.com/shepard_d/article.htm for the article.

I have now finished the installation of the second dish and everything seems to be working great! I will post some pictures of the new setup as soon as I can get some taken.

October 3, 2000 - I have received the AIPS++ software from the NRAO and am working on getting it to import the data from my dishes. I am in contact with the AIPS++ Project Manager and they are currently assisting me on this project. The AIPS++ system will give me the ability to do pictures of the data that the telescopes see, plus the ability to share my information with the NRAO, now that would be a dream come true, to be able to work along side of the professionals!!!!!! Well, keep your fingers crossed.

October 27, 2000 - I have got the basic AIPS++ system working. At the current time I can only do plots of my data, but I am in contact with Peter Teuben of the Astronomy Staff at the University of Maryland and he is assisting me in the rest of my project. If you have any questions about AIPS++ you can E-mail me or the NRAO. If I can help you with AIPS++ I will gladly do so. Once I figure out how to export a graph I will post it up here.

I will keep you posted as more develops.
