Rudyard Kipling Poem (for 04/20/01): "Wildcard" He thought he was an average guy Within an average world He saw rainclouds up in the sky And rain fell down, unpearled It mattered not to live or die Life's spark was gone, now furled. He led his average daily life Trapped within his soul's despair Depression cut him like a knife He really didn't care Nothing happened here, he thought It happened over there. He went on like this for many years He had nothing to seek He could not face up to his fears He simply was too weak Disenchantment filled his mind And he dared not take a peek. Then one average day it hit 'im What he had thought so long That what 'e did didn't matter Was simply, blatantly wrong There was no common average He'd sing a different song. The disenchantment that filled 'im Could be an inspiration To lead 'im from depression To a more fufilling vocation From average mediocricy He declared emancipation. |
