How It Works:
A jet
engine is an internal combustion
engine, which means it generates thrust by the
controlled burning of fuel.
As the jet flies through the sky, outside air enters the engine and is compressed, increasing the air pressure. Fuel is added to the compressed air, and the mixture of the two is ignited. The resulting hot gas expands rapidly and is ejected as high-velocity exhaust. This exhaust is used to produce power and propel the aircraft. |
