THE WRECK

This wreck happened when a Sheriff drove head on into my truck at 20-25mph. As you can see, there was plenty of snow and ice on the road. I was coming down the road around the curve at about 3mph. I started to slide towards the guard rail and figured, ok, no problem, we will hit the guard rail and stop. But then, coming up the hill at 20-25mph was this sheriff, who didn't even slow down. My little brother was with me and told me the guy was really surprised when he hit us. As if we just popped right out of thin air. I really don't think he saw us at all. I couldn't believe it. I jumped out and asked the officer why he didn't slow down or even stop. He answer: I was in my lane of traffic. Ok, I see now, so had I or anybody been in his lane of traffic when he was barreling up this road, he would not have stopped for them either. BOY, sounds convincing to me why he didn't stop. Seems like this guy was just not paying attention to the road or what was in front of him. At any rate, looser boy got a ride back with his buddies from his unit, and guess what....They sent out somebody from his unit to write up the report on what happened. And you can guess how the report came out...Very, very biased. Didn't want to make his buddy seem like he was not paying attention on the road. You know, have to make make him look like he was awake. No citations were given out, because it was pretty obvious that this guy was not paying attention to where he was going. In fact, there was another cop who came up after he did, driving even faster, who was able to very easily drive around both of our vehicles. Why, because he was paying attention to what was in front of him. Well, as you can see, the damage was quite extensive to his vehicle, and just a little to mine. The double tube front bumper with quarter inch steel brackets held up pretty good. My steering was a little tweaked, but I was able to drive home. I was hit hard enough to knock me up hill 3 feet. The pathetic sheriff's vehicle was pretty well smashed up. If I remember correctly, the Sheriff's damage was somewhere around $6000 bucks or so. Mine came to about $2000. I'm sure glad I had a heavy bumper up front. I really saved my truck from a lot of damage. I replaced the bumper with a Smitty built double tube front bumper. After this little thumper, I wouldn't have anything less.
