The ProSound Web Site http://www.prosoundweb.com/ has a lot of information about live sound reinforcement.
They also provide a Discussion Forum (aka Live Audio Board) covering a wide range of topics: http://srforums.prosoundweb.com/. Anyone can read the messages, but you have to join (for free) to post messages.

There is a Yahoo group called Contra Sound Forum (contrasf) that is dedicated to Contra Dance Sound: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/contrasf/ It has over 150 members. You have to join (for free) to be able participate or even to read the message archive in the web site.

• Dallas Area Contra Dance Bands gives a description of the contra dance bands in the Dallas area.
• Austin Contra Dance hosts contra dances at least once a week.
• Houston Area Traditional Dance Society holds a contra dance every other weekend.
• There are regular contra dances in Oklahoma in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
• Arkansas Country Dance Society sponsors a dance weekend at the Mountain View Folk Center in September and a big Scottish dance on New Year's Eve, in addition to their weekly dances.
• Dallas International Folk Dancers meet every Wednesday night 7:30 to 10:00 PM at Dance Etc., SW corner of Coit at Arapaho in far North Dallas (almost Richardson). Their web site lists other ethic dance groups in the area.
• Southwest Celtic Music Association sponsors Irish music and dance events in the Dallas area, including Irish Fest each spring.
• Dance With Cory - C&W and Ballroom dancing lessons in Carrollton, TX.
• Dancing in Dallas has an extensive list of classes and events for many types of dance, including Ballroom, Country and Western, Swing, Latin, Tango, etc.
• DFW International lists many kinds of ethnic events in the Dallas area.
• Country Dance and Song Society is a national organization that has group affiliates across the country (including NTTDS). It sponsors various dance camps throughout the year, chiefly at world-famous Pinewoods and Buffalo Gap. They also sell music and dance books and recordings.
• Contraculture: An Introduction To Contradancing gives a good description of a typical contra dance, including descriptions of the dozen basic steps that make up a majority of the dances.
