CH1 GETTING A CAR- The first thing you need is a car. It is cheaper to get a car that already has everything you want but, mabe you don't have the money or you want to make it your self. That is why I made this page. Never get a Super Beetle if you plan on makeing it into a baja. This is because it has MacPherson-Strut Suspension. This setup wont last long under hard conditions. (IRS) independent rear suspension came out in 1968. This will be helpfull when you try to lift the rear end. If you have a car with a Swing-Axle don't lift it to high because it will make the wheels twisted and unstable. You can always buy a (IRS) kit but, it is a lot easier to buy a pan with (IRS) and to put your car on it.
CH2 FRONT SUSPENSION- (I am not going to go over this sectoin in to great detaile. I am going to give you idea of what you want and I am going to go over the detaile in my tech section.) The key to any good off-road car is suspension. Suspension can be cost a lot of money. For my budget project we are going to find ways around this. You can raies the front end of a vw pretty easily. All you have to do is cut and turn the torsion bars 1/8-1/4" upward. This will also make the front suspension stiffer. There are all kinds of shock out their you could buy. A good shock I recomend is KYB Gas-A-Just. If your really on a budget Their are some coil-overes for about $30 each that raise the front end about 2" and they work good, but they only lats about 3 years.
CH3 REAR SUSPENSION- If you have a car with (IRS) then lifting the rear end will be simple. If you have a swing-axle there isn't really any thing you can do but, to get the $30 adj. coil-overs and a body lift.(Again I am goint to leave the detaile for my tech page.)
