Brakes

I will try to give you the best tech info I can as it comes to me. If you have a tip you would like to share please E-mail it to me.

(SECT-7.1)Brakes

A quote I got out of Baja Bugs and Buggys says "A cars wheels must be on the ground for the brakes to work." This is absolutely correct. Especially in off-road racing buggys that get airborne a lot.

Firrst I would like to say that for just playing around off-road the stock brakes are just fine. When stopping most of the cars weight goes to the frount end so most of us would think more stoping power should be up front. Wrong! The back tires get a lot more traction than the front because of the tire size. Because of this the front tire will skid, imparing steering when more stopping power is up front. A good way to fix this the problem is to change the braking bias from the front to the rear and by adding bigger wheel cylinders in back and smaller ones up front. If you have a lot of money to spend on your car then buy a dual master cylinder/pedal assembly. This could also adj. the bias from front to rear more easily.

I recommend 17mm for the front and 22mm for the rear. Also 67 and later used the tandem master cylinders. Some racers replaced them with 66 and earlier becausethe tandem uses divided remote resovers. As a car bounces along a bumpy road they can loosen and leak.
