This photo was taken just prior to their performance at a Black Tie Fundraiser for the IWK at the Westin Hotel in Halifax on November 9, 2002.

Damhsa Breacan (pronounced - Downsa Brekan) translates from Gaelic meaning "Dancing Tartans". The troupe members range in age from 9 and up. They are continually updating their performances to produce highly competitive and entertaining choreographed dance numbers. They have danced at venues all across Canada and in Scotland. The senior troupe members were successful in winning first place in their age group at the 1997 Canadian Interprovincial Choreography Competition held in Sydney, NS, in July for their performance of "Redemption" danced to musice from the Lord of the Dance Soundtrack.

The members have performed at various venues around the island including the Louisbourg Playhouse,   Interprov '97 Opening & Closing Ceremonies, St. Ann's Gaelic College and the Celtic Colours Concerts both in 1997, 1999, and 2000.

The Damhsa Breacan Highland Dance Troupe is very active both in their community and around the province.  They regularly compete in Choreography competitions in the Province and at the National level during the ScotDance Canada Championship Series.   The Series is being held in 2003 in St. Catharine's, Ontario.

The troupe is always recruiting new members from the dancers at the Campbell School of Dance. To be a troupe member, a dancer must be competing regularly and must be at the Intermediate level. A troupe try outs are held regularly. It is great fun and an excellent compliment to the traditional highland competitions. The Dance Troupe is available for functions and may be contacted thru this website or by contacting Karenanne Peck, Director, at the phone number provided above.

And here are the troupe members with their director, Karenanne.(I think Santa must have snuck in for a practice too!)

And here Morganne Layton and Monique Legatto wait for their cue to start.
