Sarsfield;

Sarsfield is a Norman name that probably first came to Ireland in 1172 in the person of Thomas de Sarsefeld, chief standard-bearer to Henry 11. The family received grants of land in Co. Cork and later near Lucan, Co. Dublin, where they became Earls of Lucan.
Patrick Sarsfield (1650-1693), Earl of Lucan and a commander in the Williamite wars is a national hero of Ireland. He later served in the French army and died of wounds received at the battle of Landen. His son Col. James Francis Sarsfield (d.1719) served in the Spanish and French armies.
