Jennings;

Jennings is a name common to both Ireland and England. In Ireland, however, the name occurs mostly in Connacht in the counties of Galway and Mayo. In Irish the name is Mac Seoinin, meaning descended from Little John. The ancestor of the sept was a Burke called Little John Burke. Jennings then is a Norman name originally.
The story of the Jennings is essentially a military one as they distinguished themselves in the armies of the Continent. Charles Jennings (1744-1799) was regarded as the most prominent Irish military mind during the French Revolution.
Sir Patrick J. Jennings (1830-1897) was governor of New South Wales.
