My Disclaimer Page

Revised May 4, 2000

My pages are Copyright © 1995-2000, David G. Bartholomew. Copyrights to material by other authors is to them (if they declare it) and is credited to the original authors (if known).

I am not responsible for any content you find from any sites or pages that my pages have links to. My pages are not intended to offend. Opinions expressed on my pages are mine, considered as free speech under the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. They do not necessarily reflect the opinions of my ISP, or of my employer, or of anyone else.

I am not responsible for anything that happens because you read, saw, or followed anything on these pages, including but not limited to: financial loss or gain, divorce, arrest, indictment, whatever.

Permission is granted for anyone to have a link from their page(s) to any of my pages. But, please inform me, I like to know how people are finding their way in here.

My pages are non-commercial in nature, however I am starting to add some ads in a low-key way, and I do hope you'll check them out. The fact that I have links to commercial sites does not mean that I am specifically endorsing them or recommending them (even the ones I have this (thumbs up) symbol next to).

If there is anyone who does not want my pages to have a link into any of their pages, please inform me and I will remove the link(s) in question. I understand that some sites can get too popular, and any way to cut down the publicity can be a step to the good.

I try to verify the links I publish from time to time. However, quite some time could go by before I find out that some of them are defunct. I update all of my pages in my spare time. Please bear with me on any changes or updates, as I will fix them when I can.

Links to pages by others are included at my discretion.

Some of the animated GIFs I use came from Animation Online.

Now for some useful information!

I am trying to keep my pages readable by all browsers, but these days it's rapidly becoming a war of two:
Netscape and Internet Explorer.
I am still avoiding things like frames and other specialized features, but there are some features, like fonts, that appear to be at least partially common to both, and on browsers that do not use the feature, you get normal text (or something close to it).

Here are some of the fonts (and alternates) I am using now in various pages:

Don't worry if you don't have all of those fonts. Usually one of the alternates will work fine, and even if you don't have the font, you'll still read it normally.

As for where to get these fonts, you can download some of them right here: TTFONTS.zip and STRFONTS.zip (So far as I know, these are OK for me to have here for you. If this is not so, please contact me and let me know and I will take them down.) You can also find many of them at nearly every FTP collection. Please do not ask me for any you do not find here. The Gilligan's Island font is available at the Gilligan's Island Fan Club site. This is a really fun one and I'm using it more on my pages.

Microsoft has some fonts which you can download here. At least one of them (Impact) is one that I use sometimes. The Free Site has links to many other font collections. Finally, one place to find a variety of fonts of questionable origin (probably pirated from commercial sources) is alt.binaries.fonts on Usenet. Caviat emptor if you try any of them.

Graphics alone doth not a page make. That's why I don't go overboard with them. In fact, I have set myself to this simple design goal:

If any page won't completely load
within sixty seconds including the
graphics, on an otherwise normal connection
at 14.4 Kbps, then the page is too friggin' BIG!
Why should you wait all day for a worthless page?
I don't like to wait either.
(So, I cut down the waiting time for MY worthless pages!)

As for sounds and music...

I don't often embed sounds or music in my pages except when it provides some real enhancement in some way. I always provide a means to download the sound or music if you want. My preferred embedding is the one used by MS Internet Explorer, because it doesn't mess around with your volume settings (unlike the EMBED method used by Netscape's browser). Some pages are downright obnoxious with the volume; I'd like to think mine are much more considerate. Especially if your boss is within earshot of your workstation!

And now for the real fine print:

which can be taken any way you want:
Void where prohibited, if any such places exist. No GIF or Modem Taxes apply that we are aware of (and hopefully it'll stay that way). Certain restrictions may apply, including but not limited to: a page author, publisher, or service provider updating, altering, or deleting their material, or simply disappearing from the World Wide Web; acts of God resulting in loss or interruption of services; alien invasions resulting in loss or interruption of services; acts of anyone else resulting in loss or interruption of services. So you're on your own. Not responsible if you find something interesting. Not responsible for content or lack of content found on this page or any pages accessed directly or indirectly by any links found on this or other pages (that about covers them all). Access limited to the contiguous 48 megaparsec radius of this internet provider. Time travelers strictly cash only. In the event any time travelers from outside the 48 megaparsec limit need access, please contact your local Internet provider.

Caution: some web pages may be habit forming. The Surgeon General hasn't said anything one way or the other about whether the Internet is good for one's health; however it is believed to directly or indirectly cause lack of sleep, long phone calls, and perhaps a lot of time spent with your respective Internet provider. Frankly we believe the Surgeon General has little or nothing to do with any of this but we thought we'd include it anyway. If this print is too small and you are still trying to read it this author suggests you: (a) need to get a life, (b) need to change your web browser to use some larger fonts, (c) both.
