I got this sprint car in for paint thinking it would be a straight forward paint job, and was again reminded not to "assume" anything.

I started to fix a few problem areas in this fibreglass "Kiddy-ride", to find out that it had been previously painted by its past owners. After feathering the paint, I was able to count a total of 28 previous coats of paint.

.The owner decided against stripping all those layers of paint to keep the job reasonably priced, so I suggested that we "bury" everything in a thick coat of polyester filler.

I let this cure for a couple of days, then blocksanded with 100 grit. The whole thing was then covered in three heavy coats of high build urethane filler primer.

After another week of cure time, the urethane primer was guide coated and then wet sanded with 600. A few coats of Chromabase pearl blue followed by three coats of 72500 appearance clear, and the car looks awesome.

Dave James who owns the car, did an excellent job putting on the final touches, as well as restoring the base that it sits on.

I'm hoping in the future Dave lets me restore the bike that now sits beside his "new" sprintcar. 1
