Oh yes, it is extremely easy to infect your machine with trap door programs that steal information in your PC, monitor your key strokes, etc.Oh no, virus programs only detect well known bugs, non of them ever managed to detect any I have written.
Oh yes, you can use firewall alright, but most firewalls block connections initiated from outside...... and at most warn connections initiated from your system...... so unless you have been really careful and know exactly what programs on your PC are legitimate and what are not... you are vulnerable.
Oh no, even though your browser encrypts your online transaction, you are still vulnerable because a baddie program can still monitor your key strokes and compose your credit card numbers or other private information from them.
As a second line of defense (or first rather, I don't have firewalls, I need to run programs that need two way connections, but I am not worried, I have full backups of everything, and I have nothing on my PC for hackers to steal...... nontheless, I became worried when I type passwords when doing online banking), I wrote Quiet, which hopefully will block such attempts......
