A long day driving - via the
Petrified Forest. Stocked up with supplies as best we could in Khorixas,
fuelled up in the desperate Kamanjab and lunched atop the Grootberg (Big
Mountain) Pass (pic 1). The remaining (long) stretch involved gazing at
the bizarre bottle trees, euphorbias, rocks, HUGE vistas, clear air and
wonderful aloneness. Oh, also did the good deed, stopping to assist a
fellow traveler with a puncture (well, a tyre had a puncture!). Arrived at
Ongongo to be met by an unpleasantly full campsite. But soldiered on, set
up camp and had a swim in the pool at the base of a tufa waterfall with
hot spring flowing from below the pool surface - and terrapins!
