Greetings one and all - YES!! WE SURVIVED the wilds of northern
Namibia!! What a magical 9 days since we last mailed!! Sorry about the
delay - modern telecomms have not yet managed to reach these outer areas -
thankfully in many ways!

After some last-minute shopping
for fresh supplies, we left Swakopmund and drove north along the Atlantic
Coast to the fishing/holiday village of Henties Bay, stopping en route to
view some FASCINATING lichen fields! All leapt out and expended many shots
- yahoo Kodak! Then turned inland to the Spitzkoppe (literally "sharp
heads") Mountains, affectionately known to the locals as
"Namibia's Matterhorn". Incredible granite inselbergs rising out
of the stark desert plains (pic 1). Set up camp at the foot of one of the
outcrops, while Adrienne clicked away, Jerry found some sun and Hannah and
Jill explored. A late afternoon visit to Bushmans' Paradise - entailed a
steep climb and much energy. Sadly the paintings have been horribly
defaced (VIVA responsible tourism!). Dinner - and ANOTHER horribly early
night!' God, you'd swear we're adjusting to our primeval roots!
