Cross To Bear

Cassidy Melczak

It has been said
That everyone has
Their own cross to bear
If that happens to be true
What kind of cross have you?

Do you cross your heart,
And hope to die?
Hiding the truth
And yet still hoping
You will go to paradise

Are you a cross dresser?
Wearing that emblem
Proud of its meaning
But simply, only because
You have nothing else to wear

Do you use the crosswalk?
Walking in the path when
All your elders are watching
Taking the easy path
When they are not

Do you cross your eyes?
Seeing only what you want
And making everything,
You do not want to see
But a foggy fuzzy blur

If it is true then,
That you do in fact
Have a cross
Then I must ask a question
What kind of cross have you?

I wrote this for a contest, but it never got entered. It was supposed to be 30 lines or less and all mine were about 40 or 50 at the time. I whipped this up during a break in typing class. I have always kinda liked it, but never thought it any good. Yes the music is Foolish Games, I don’t know why, I just kinda felt like putting it there. Same with the background. Note: My youth minister, Jeff has this poem hanging in his office wall: he even made me sign it.
