DREAMING WORLD'S SYMBOLISM DICTIONARY


This dictionary has been compiled from dream discussions and interpretations on the Dreaming World mailing list. Please be aware that some dreams will have considerable different meaning to different dreamers, the first place you should start looking when you want to analyse a dream is within YOU. But if you're stuck, this just might help you out or give you a starting point :-) This list will be updated as more discussions come about.

SAND: "Shifting" perspective or attitude.

SCREAMING: Silent screams denote repressed emotions or calls for help.

SEAL: Portrays the utilization of spirituality in one's daily life.

SHARK: Corresponds to religious fanatics; those who try to convert others to their beliefs in a relentless manner.

SHOE STORE: An opportunity to change the way your life/path is travelled.

SHOWER (wash) - Indicates the need for some type of inner cleansing.

SHRINE: Cautions against focusing on singular spiritual elements.

SLEEP: The unconscious world, intuition etc.

SNAKES: Occur when the dreamer is trying to come to terms with their instinctive side. It's a recognition and harnessing of energies which have been supressed. The most primeval urge we have is sexuality and the image of the snake is the most primative one available. Being chased by an animal generally means not coming to terms with our own passion. Snake breaking through window-this suggests the 1st sexual experience.

SNAKES: (non-poisonous) exemplifies cleverness; proceeding with discernment.

SNOW: Represents purity if seen in a pristine landscape. Since snow is a solidified form of water, it can also stand for frozen emotions. snow can spiritually represent pureness, beauty and melting away of difficulties. connotes a strong comprehension and grasp of spiritual truths.

SPIDERS: Are very symbolic of life – their bodies are in two, forming the figure 8 which is the symbol of eternity on it's side, and the ever turning of the circle. This in conjunction with its eight legs links it to all the mysticism associated with the geometric form of the figure eight. The difficulty is learning to walk those circles or even hold your position within the middle between the two. The spider is the weaver of dreams, spinning them into reality. Are you being true to your dreams? Spiders will teach you the need to maintain balance. They are small creatures, but very agile, and weave their webs in the most dangerous of places sometimes. But they will also find balance and safety within their webs wherever they are. Perhaps you need to find your safe spot and focus on getting more balance into your life also. apparently mean that in the long term you will succeed dispite recent difficulties. If the spiders are crawling over you it means you may receive a large sum on money in the not too distant future. To see one spinning is a sign of a lot of money coming to you and if you kill one in the dream it fortells future enjoyment for you.

SPIRITS: May refer to an entity associated with the dreamer or it may indicate the "power" and energy of one's own life-force

SQUIRREL: Refers to the act of hoarding. Depending on the dreamscape's associated details, this symbol may indicate a "need" to reserve something or it may reflect a warning against retaining too much...

STAIRS: Can represent an obstacle to be conquered, or even refer to your advancement in some stage of your life. (ie. promotion,spiritual advancement, relationship advancement etc).

STARS - Many bright stars are a promise of success; Exemplifies truth and it's ultimate search for same. SEE ALSO: Explosive stars

STICKERS: Will present a personal message for each dreamer, depending on what the sticker symbolised or said.

STOMACHS: Alludes to fortitude.

STOOLS (furniture): Typifies an aid that assists one's advancement or progression

SUFFOCATION: Reflects a state of perceived smothering; usually reveals a self-generated condition. Could indicate that you are a victim of a particular kind of love that is so protective of you that you feel suffocated. Warns you to get out of a bad relationship.

SUITCASE: What one carries inside oneself, such as longings, fears, attitudes. It may also be a sign of independence. Bag also has to do with your identity. Maybe "emotional baggage".
