INITIATIVE FOR ISLAMIC
STUDIES |
WORKING REGULATIONS
The Initiative for Islamic Studies (InIS) is an independent association
of persons permanently resident in Germany or Europe who have studied
Islamic theology and law at least to the extent that they are able to
teach Theology and Law, Stage 1 (cf. Theology
and Law, Stage 1, Curriculum), at the same time being familiar enough
with their social and cultural environment to be able to contribute to the
solution of problems and the development of the identity of Muslims in
Europe, as well as ready to use their potential according to their ability.
Aims:
- Study and self-education which is a lifelong task.
- Research in theology, law, philosophy, history, religious education
etc.
- Teaching of Islamic knowledge, values and methods in a suitable
form (lessons for children and adults, groups for young people, lectures,
publications etc.) with a special consideration of the inner-Islamic
varieties.
- Promotion of a dialogue between different Muslim schools of
thought.
- Dialogue with representatives of other religions and world views.
The activities take place:
- from a personal commitment of each member and in his/her own
responsibility while exchanging experiences and ideas with other members
if possible,
- as cooperative projects by some or all members in mutual
consultation.
The same applies to the funding of projects.
A letter head and a rubber stamp is available for certificates,
statements etc. Each member is entitled to sign his/her own statements
or certificates for courses taught by him/her. Joint statements are
drawn up by consensus and signed by the initiator and two other members.
New members are accepted by consensus, taking care that the internal
linguistic and cultural variety is preserved. The same applies to
the exclusion of members. The retirement is declared in writing with
reasons.
All members are recommended to keep themselves informed about the
development in the Muslim world and among Muslims in a minority
situation and to keep in touch with scholars and teaching institutions
in Muslim countries and all over the world.
