STAMPS FROM MONTSERRAT

The small island of Montserrat is a British posession in the Caribbean, which has been plagued by volcanic activity throughout the 1990s. The population has shrunk to just a third of what it used to be and the capital, Plymouth, is completely destroyed. The Soufriere Hills Volcano is now quieting down but it will take a lot of time before Montserrat returns back to normal. The four stamps shown here are from the Mythical Creatures set of 1996. They have been canceled on Montserrat on November 23rd, 1998 and are worth almost US$3.
